About Paradigm Shift
Paradigm Shift is the FIRST and Vex Robotics team from L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute. Since 2007, our rookie year, the team has participated in several international robotics competitions. Team 2198 consists of over 30 grade 9-12 students. Guided by their mentors, students learn many skills. Students develop skills in design, fabrication, programming, electronics and web design. In addition, the team is dedicated to enhancing leadership, teamwork and business skills in all its members. Skill development occurs through the process of fundraising as well as planning, building, testing and competing with a fully developed robot. In the first half of the school year students participate in the VEX Robotics competition, where they build a robot to play in a new and unique game every year. Students design, build, and program their robots to do incredible tasks during the duration of around 6 weeks. During the second half of the year students participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). NASA announces their competition at the beginning of January and the team has the limited time of 6 weeks to design, build, and program their robot to compete in a series of challenging tasks. During this competition the team's problem solving and teamwork abilities are tested. In 2014, Team 2198 placed first at the GTA East regional, placed first in the provincial stage, and therefore qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championship at St. Louis Missouri, U.S.A. Between 2016-2017, Paradigm Shift had qualified for the Ontario provincial VEX Robotics competition, Starstruck, which took place in February 2017 at St. Catharines.
